ADS, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of its 2020 Mission Give Back® college scholarship program.

Each year, the foundation established by the Virginia Beach-based military contractor’s awards college scholarships to the children of military service members and first responders who have fallen, been injured, or are missing in action. This year, the recipients include a record-setting six graduating high school seniors from across the country.

About a quarter of the ADS workforce is military veterans. After many years of enthusiastic employee volunteerism, ADS established the ADS Mission Give Back Foundation® to support its charitable efforts in local military, law enforcement and emergency response communities.

“Our employees understand what it means to serve our nation and being able to help these kids matters so much to everyone who works here,” Wallace said. “It just feels good. We can’t wait to watch them grow and succeed.”

DOMINIC JAIKARAN

/// Cathedral Catholic High School, San Diego, CA
Dominic has volunteered more than 700 hours for multiple organizations, including Challenged Sailors San Diego and the Travis Manion Foundation where he helped rebuild a home in honor of his dad. Dominic’s father, a Master-at-arms in the U.S. Navy, died while enlisted in 2014. Dominic will spend his first year studying abroad with Verto Education, earning college credits in Environmental Science, Global Health and Cultural Anthropology. He will attend the University of San Francisco in Fall of 2021, pursuing a career in law enforcement in honor of his father.

HARMONY THOMAS

Harmony Thomas is a member of the Quill and Scroll Honors Society for Journalism and the recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. She participated in studio dance and was the features editor for her school newspaper as well as a member of the 4-H and Historian-Interact Clubs. Harmony has also volunteered with the USO and the American Red Cross. The daughter of SGT Andre Thomas, US Army, Harmony plans to study Journalism at University of North Texas this fall.

HANNAH VELARDE

/// Lejeune High School, Camp Lejeune, NC
Hannah Velarde has participated on the swim and track teams, USA Club Swimming, the Athlete Council, FCA, SGA, and her high school newspaper, was a Lejeune High School Junior Rotary Student Leader and Junior Scholar and is a member of the National Honor Society. Hannah has volunteered with Samaritan’s Purse, Compassion, A21, Catalyst Student, East Carolina Aquatics, and 2D Recon BN. The daughter of Sandra Velarde, US Navy, Hannah will attend Liberty University in the fall to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.

ZACH CANNON

/// Freemont High School, Plain City, UT
Zach Cannon is a member of the National Honor Society, completed all courses in Project Lead the Way and is an Eagle Scout. Zach is very active in his church youth group and has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Lantern House, 180 Ministries, and the Salvation Army. The son of MSgt Roger Cannon, US Air Force, Zach plans to attend Weber State University in the fall. He is currently undecided on his field of study.

Micaela Martinez, Mission Give Back Foundation Scholarship Winner

MICHAELA MARTINEZ

/// Northside High School, Jacksonville, NC
At Northside High School, Micaela Martinez was a member of the swim team and swim club, as well as AVID. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, an AVID tutor and volunteer swim coach. The daughter of SSGT Manuel Martinez, US Marine Corps, Michaela plans to study Pre-Physical Therapy at Barton College this fall.

ADELA STOREY

/// Palmer High School, Palmer, MA
Adela Storey, ranked 3rd in her graduating class, is a member of the National Honor Society and a Rensselaer Medal recipient. She has been a volunteer at her church and with the local blood bank committee and has participated in other community service activities, such as campus clean ups and clothing drives for women’s and homeless shelters. Adela’s father is SSG Clint J Storey, U.S. Army, who was assigned to 1st Calvary Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany; killed Aug. 4, 2006 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee while conducting combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq. Adela will attend the Pre-Pharmacy program at Western New England University this fall and plans to further pursue her doctorate in Pharmacy.
