TACTICAL COMBAT CASUALTY CARE (TCCC) REQUIREMENTS

COMBAT MEDICINE SIMULATION

The stakes are high in medicine. Move those requirements to the battlefield and you need a whole new skillset. Combat medics are trained to quickly assess a medical situation in a combat zone, provide care for the most critical patients first and transport them to safety. Simulation training is one of the few ways to prepare medics for those many requirements.
Performing battlefield care in a simulated combat environment on actors and/or mannequins helps bolster medical skills and readiness in a way no classroom training can. Medical simulations layer in environmental stressors such as low visibility and the sound of gunshots, screaming or sirens. These high-stress scenarios aim to improve medical training and boost medic confidence prior to combat experience.

Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) courses are designed to prevent combat deaths by teaching trauma stabilization techniques, enabling the wounded to survive transport to a hospital. These skills include tourniquet applications, wound packing, airway support and hemorrhage control, as well as applying intravenous therapy medications.

The most realistic training solutions include augmented dummies that look, feel and respond like a live human. These dummies simulate combat trauma injuries and gunshot wounds, allowing users dynamic, hands-on training, parallel to that in combat medicine.

TCCC DOD REQUIREMENT*

When it comes to getting ready for real-world missions, effective training saves lives. This is why all DoD military personnel and the Civilian Expeditionary Workforce are required to be certified in TCCC—a battlefield appropriate casualty care based on injury patterns of previous conflicts.

This approach focuses on treating the three primary causes of death on the battlefield, on a real human casualty:
