Introducing ADS’ solution to the U.S. Army’s Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble - FREE™. The ADS FREE™ solution is a high-tech, multi-layered, cold-weather clothing system specifically designed to meet the needs of soldiers who serve in specialized areas at greater risk of being exposed to fuel fires, a hazard associated with helicopters and armored vehicles.
ADS is currently under contract with the U.S. Army to source and integrate FREE.
As the lead integrator, ADS utilizes our unparalleled product expertise and cutting edge distribution operations to lead a team of over ten U.S. technical garment manufacturers and technical textile companies to produce and supply the versatile, multi-layer, 16-component system.

With the goal of enhancing soldier survivability and through the development of technologically advanced environmental protective clothing, PM CIE sought significant feedback from industry and Soldiers to develop this fully integrated fire resistant cold weather layering system.
Based on current layering systems such as the U.S. Army’s Third Generation Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (GEN III ECWCS), FREE™ uses the latest textile science to keep Soldiers comfortable, dry, warm and safe in the most inclement conditions. Each piece fi ts and functions either alone or together as a system to provide the most options for the Soldier.

FREE provides the Army soldier with built-in protection from flame and heat threats present in combat conditions, while remaining highly functional in a spectrum of cold and wet weather climates. The FREE system is user-adaptable for field operations in rapidly evolving combat environments and protects the soldier from head to toe. It is designed specifically for aviation and combat vehicle crewmen, and utilizes advanced textile technologies in a range of garments, from lightweight base layers to weather-protecting outerwear.
The complete FREE System features 16 components to provide the broadest range of defense from unpredictable environmental conditions as well as flame and heat threats.

FREE, or Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble, consists of a multilayer, 16-level cold weather clothing system based on GEN III. FREE is fire resistant clothing designed for soldiers in areas exposed to fuel fires, which are often associated with helicopters and armored vehicles. ADS, Inc. works with ten American garment manufacturers and textile companies to produce this 16-layer clothing system. All pieces function alone or together and are designed to protect the wearer from flames and heat threats in cold and wet weather conditions.
The various layers for the Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble begin with t-shirts and briefs and go through base and mid-weight layers made from Nomex/Lycra mesh. Outer layers consist of light to extreme weather jackets, parkas, and trousers. Included with these pieces of fire resistant clothing are gloves and wool socks with the same properties.
