ADS donates C.L.S. Protective Combat Uniform (PCU) to wounded warriors for use on the ascent of Lobuche East
Virginia Beach, VA (September 21, 2010) – ADS, Inc. is sponsoring “Soldiers to the Summit,” an extreme mountain climbing expedition of wounded combat veterans. Organized by World T.E.A.M. Sports, these wounded warriors will attempt to summit the 20,075 foot peak of Lobuche East, located just 8.7 miles from Mount Everest in the Himalayas. Erik Weihenmeyer, who is celebrating the tenth anniversary of becoming the only blind person to summit Mount Everest, will lead the team. “Soldiers to the Summit” will take place from October 2 – October 21, 2010. Visit soldierstothesummit.org for more information and to follow the expedition.
In support of “Soldiers to the Summit”, ADS provided the team with C.L.S. Protective Combat Uniforms from Beyond™. Commonly referred to as PCU and originally developed by U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), this multi-level cold weather layering system is designed to provide a broad level of environmental protection and withstand the harshest environments on earth. Beyond™ is the official manufacturer and supplier for the USSOCOM custom-fit PCU program. In addition to being the premier provider of the Beyond™ C.L.S. PCU, ADS is also the official integrator for the U.S. Army’s third generation Extended Climate Warfighter Clothing System (GEN III ECWCS) and the U.S. Army’s Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble (FREE).
“ADS is committed to supporting our wounded warriors in all facets of their rehabilitation and we also pride ourselves on our expertise in cold weather clothing systems.” said Luke Hillier, ADS CEO. “Nothing could be more fitting than combining our passion for supporting our wounded warriors and our expertise in technical clothing systems to support these brave men and women on their road to recovery.”
In addition, ADS is sponsoring Cody Miranda, one of the combat veteran climbers. Medically retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, Cody suffers from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He spent 18 years in the Marine Corps on seven deployments including Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring/Iraqi Freedom. Miranda served with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines; Alpha Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion; Force Reconnaissance Company; Naval Special Clearance Team-1; and with EWTGPAC as a Reconnaissance Instructor.
